The growing demands for national digital transformation in Nigeria has not been met due to the shortage of skills and talents especially among the underserved. According to the World Bank Report on the Demand for Digital Skills in Sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria is among the countries that have the highest demand for digital training opportunities, driven by the size of the labor force and expected adoption of digital skills.
It is in the light of this that the World bank and FME-IDEAS is partnering with the OS Concepts Research and Consulting, Periscope Consulting and Omniswift Nig. Ltd in implementing targeted digital skills training programs tailored to the specific needs of underserved populations, such as women and persons-with-disabilities. This program is aimed at providing comprehensive training, internship and mentorship opportunities that will empower trainees to access better job opportunities, increase their earning potential and contribute meaningfully to the economy.
By equipping them with the necessary digital skills in the areas of Mobile Application Development and Web Design, we also aspire to support them in leveraging on this learning intervention and tapping into the huge global demands for people with digital skills therefore becoming globally relevant. The success of our trainees will result in the reduction of the high incidents of cybercrimes and digital frauds (popularly known as Yahoo-Yahoo) and help to channel the productive energies of Nigerian youth towards productive endeavours.
In addition, this project has the potential to drastically impact the digital economy in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; its environs as well as the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
